QuickTime Plug-in for Panasonic AVCCAM products.
This plug-in allows Quicktime to read Panasonic AVCCAM clips.
The AVCCAM Importer QuickTime plug-in component is to enable direct editing of AVCHD “.mts” file without conversion.
AVCHD clips recorded on a Panasonic AVCCAM lineup product can be handled directly in QuickTime 7 and Final Cut Pro 7.0.3.

WARNING:
This plug-in is for Panasonic AVCCAM products only – AVCHD clips recorded on equipment other than AVCCAM products slow Quicktime to a crawl and have Audio and Video out of sync. I have tried it with mts (AVCHD) clips from Sony Cameras and it does not work correctly, so DON’T use this plug-in for any footage other than Panasonic AVCCAM products listed below.
AVCCAM series : AG-HMC150 series, AG-HMC40 series, AG-HMC70 series, AG-HMR10 series,AG-AF100 series
(as of December 2010). AVCHD clips recorded with other equipment (not listed above) such as AG-HSC1U, may
cause unstable audio and other symptom with audio in play back mode.

*1: AVCHD clips recorded on equipment other than AVCCAM products will not be handled properly. Use the Inspector function in QuickTime Player to view the clip property, which includes the equipment used to record.
* Momentary picture and audio disturbance may occasionally happen in the connection point of spanned files (a clip separated into separate 4GB files.)
* Additional rendering may be required when add title insert and edit more than two streams.
* At rare intervals, following symptom may occasionally happen: (A) MTS file’s icon may not be displayed properly on Mac finder, (B) Clip duration may not be displayed on the QuickTime player and an Inspector window.

It does not list FCP 6 or earlier as supported, but that does not mean it will not work with them – just not supported, I would suspect that you will, at least, need the latest version of Quicktime 7 though (vers 7.7).
Let me know if you try it with an earlier version of FCP so that others reading this site will be kept up to date.
Be aware that there maybe sync problems between audio and video – watch out for those.

Does this allow each audio channel to be entered separately, rather than mixed as stereo?
This plug-in simply allows you to access the clip as it was recorded on the camera. So the answer to your question is that it depends on how the camera was set when the footage was recorded.
If it was recorded in stereo, then FCP allows you to separate the audio into 2 x mono channels by changing it in the modify menu – (untick stereo pair)
I always record my channels separately, using two mics. I have read that FCP will only import AVCHD as mixed stereo. Has anyone out there been able to actually import the sound as it was recorded, ie 2 separated channels?

I do weddings and other events using a label Mic on one channel as well as ambient sound on the second camera with Sony AVCHD cameras – I have had no problems.
Just to double check… So each channel retains its different level? They are NOT MIXED?
Yes – completely separate on the camera and in 2 x separate channels when imported into FCP 7.

When i choose setup in fcp 7.0.3 I cant find AVCCAM or AVCHD in the setup, it´s shot with a ag101.
What am I doing wrong?
Hi,
Setup is mostly irrelevant when it comes to importing AVCHD through Panasonic plug in. Select import in file menus and select the clips in Hard disk that you imported from your camera. Otherwise select log and transfer (from file menu) and locate the Camera that is connected.
Setup is important to set your timeline format, though.
I know how to log and transfer the clips in fcp but I recently updated my fcp and I don´t know which settings I´m supposed to use?

What have you upgraded to. If it is FCPX – the Panasonic Plug in will be no use to you. It is for FCP 7.
I have upgraded from fcp 7.0.0 to fcp 7.0.3, sorry for being bad with the details.
So it should work with fcp 7.0.3 which I have but I don´t figger it out.
