Final Cut Pro 7 – Studio 3 – officially available again

This maybe a short term opportunity, but if you need Final Cut 7 – Studio 3, then it will be available via the Apple Phone line only – not available on the App store or at retailers. There are no pricing details available for Australia as yet. I will post as soon as I know.

MacRumors is reporting that the legacy Final Cut Studio 3 bundle carrying the part number MB642Z/A is once again available, after being discontinued when Final Cut Pro X hit the Mac App Store in June.

The US price is: $999.00 and it is available in UK for £834 through the company’s telephone sales line. According to the BBC news service.

Apple’s official comment is:

“As we’ve done before with many end-of-life software products, we have a limited quantity of Final Cut Studio still available through Apple telesales to customers who need them for ongoing projects,” according to an Apple spokesperson.

This may mean that Apple has responded to the criticism from a fast majority of the Editing world – more than 8,000 people signed a petition that demanded the source code to Final Cut Pro 7 be sold to a third party. But it may merely mean that they have stock that they are prepared to sell off – what about support.

It would imply that if the software is officially being sold by Apple then, it will need to be supported by them.

Time will tell.
